Mission & Values

Grassroots is an independent grant making charity. By helping local community and voluntary groups with small financial awards we aim to improve the lives of local people, in particular those who are disadvantaged, vulnerable, isolated or lonely.   See our recent grant beneficiaries.

We were founded in 1989 by Westley Sandford who realised that the voluntary and community organisations of North East Essex could use some help. Westley decided to set up an independent charitable trust to support those organisations and, in turn, the residents of Colchester and Tendring.  Grassroots is the working name of Colchester and Tendring Community Trust which is registered at the Charity Commission. Registered charity number 803193.  

Our Board of Trustees

Our  trustees have a wide range of skills and experience and are selected for their extensive knowledge of local need. With so many good causes to consider, business and personal donors can relax in the knowledge that a charitable gift made through Grassroots will make a real difference to local people.
